Why is America the only country that is so wrapped up in what race someone is?

For Example, if Barack Obama becomes the President, we have to worry about him being assassinated. Its 2008 people. I love my country, but its embarassing to think that race plays a part in everything in America. Alot of white Democrats say that if Barack gets the nomination then they will vote republican or not vote at all. Black Democrats would still vote for Hillary or any other president regardless if he or she is white. Our country is racist and thats why I think Michelle Obama made her comments, because for the first time in her life, she saw all people coming together although they knew that her husband was black and running for President. I knew what she meant when she said that for the first time in her life she was proud to be an American. Walk a day in a black persons shoes before you make a judgement. Everybody knows someone who hates for no apparent reason other than skin color. The educated people know better, whether Black or White. They will vote for the best candidate

Why is America the only country that is so wrapped up in what race someone is?
America%26#039;s racism had it%26#039;s roots in economy. It%26#039;s legacy has been beneficial to many as well as destructive to many others. If you really want to understand American racism, a good book to read is %26#039;White Like Me%26#039; by author Tim Wise. In it he describes how racism not only affects the minority population but has a hand in keeping the majority white population under control as well with it%26#039;s false sense of superiority. All for capital gain of the few rich and powerful who pit us (fellow Americans) against each other with a constant divide and conquer mentality. It is a system that is diabolically brilliant in it%26#039;s implementation and, as you can see by the comments here, is still in place.

Geeze, the English are wrapped up that Poles are overtaking their country and Poles are Caucasians just like the English.





There is less racism in American than in 90% of the countries on the planet (and that includes Canada). The only only reason that it%26#039;s in front of every paper and news program is that America is the only country willing to confront and discuss it. Every other country is willing to keep it under wraps.

Reply:You have obviously never been to Europe or Asia. For example, go to Korea and check out how many mixed race children even have a job. Find out how they are treated by society.





In Europe, it is no different. They smile at you and then despise you when they are with their friends.

If America is the most wrapped up in race, that%26#039;s not good. But I believe racism is just one form of hatred and there appears to be an awful lot of hate abroad in the world that has nothing to do with America or the legacy of slavery.

You have been duped by the press.





Without a doubt America has come a long way in overcoming the racial divide. We have black governors, senators, Supreme Court justice, college presidents, Sec State, etc.





However, the press/media seized on an inflammatory issue and has sold a lot of newspapers on this issue. The %26#039;fear%26#039; instilled in White voters based on Rev Wright%26#039;s issue will drive fearful white voters out, both Dem%26#039;s and republicans, to vote for McCain - out of fear. Not based on race, but based on fear perpetuated by the press.

Reply:Most American%26#039;s will vote for a candidate NOT because of race, but for a myriad of other issues, i.e., their stand on key issues, their record, etc. The race issue in this campaign was non-existent until it came out that Obama himself is a racist, hiding behind his pretty words. His actions speak louder than his words, though. The black community continues to promote racism by their support of the black theology movement. Is it interesting that, according to recent polls, the vast majority of blacks will vote for Obama?





I agree that it%26#039;s unfortunate that in 2008 our country is still harping on the race issue. It will not go away, however, until the unoffended get over the fact that their ancestors were offended. Slavery ended many many years ago and racial equality has been an established rule in this country for many years. The majority of those still clinging to racial inequality are the black communities. Somehow, it behooves them to hold on to the old ways. Why?
Reply:Great question! I was just thinking about how isolated we are especially those in middle America. No contact with other countries and so isolated and fearful of change. They do cling to their guns and are lost in another era. I feel like we are becoming like the old isolated China with the big wall. this kind of mindset will destroy us if we continue that is why it%26#039;s so important to get Obama elected.
