Track Season 400M?

I am a male and last year as a freshmen i ran a 60 sec flat 400m. at the time i was 5%26#039;4%26quot; tall. This year i plan to continue with the 400 but i really hope to improve my time. now that im 5%26#039;9%26quot; im sure i will do pretty well but does anybody have any tips for this race? also what kind of shoe should i wear, i stay on my toes the whole race. i sprint the first 200 then back off into a long stride for the last corner then in the last stretch im all out again. last year i tore my hamstring so some tips on keeping healthy would be nice too. thanks

also i hope to break 51 sec by my senior year, does anybody think that is possible?

Track Season 400M?
Your time last year was good. Should be no problem doing 51 as a senior. The hamstring is from a bad digestion problem in the stomach that is affecting the liver. Do not ignore this problem or you will never be a great runner if your body is not well. Do not drink ANY kind of soda pop, period. This stuff destroys the PH balance of you body chemistry and screws of you organs. Never ever drink ice cold drinks. They screw up you adrenal glands, big time. Stay away from any food that was not alive at some time. Potato chips, french fry%26#039;s, chewing gum, candy was never alive. You need food that has life giving nutrients. My best 400 was 47+ at 5%26#039;9%26quot;.
Reply:definitley possible....ur pacing seems pretty good...sprinting spikes are always good to have, especially if you run on your toes...i personally love the 400...its my favorite race
Reply:The 400m is a tough race but with A lot of work you can improve your time .To help you hamstring you need to strengthen it by doing leg curls .Regular sprinter spikes are good for running the 400m.Some tips for running are to relax your face .tension of your face will led you to slow down. You not need blocks yet .In the 400m you need to go out hard for 200 m .then run relax for next 100m then use your arms last 100m .you should run some 800m races to build your endurance.
Reply:Blocks will definatly help, if you use them right. Blocks can make or break you. Also get good spikes they really help. Your technque is just like mine and it works for me. (I ran a 63 as an 8th grader and I%26#039;m a girl) Make sure you stretch and do lunges and squats to strengthen those hamstrings. I think a 51 is definatly possible for you if you work hard.

Best of luck!!!!!
