Why do some people just judge you by you're race?

One time I was in the mall, and this 12 year old girl says to her parents as I pass by, %26quot;oh, those clothes and shoes are probably knockoffs.%26quot; Why would she assume I would buy knockoffs? If it because of my race? This isn%26#039;t the only time, I overheard someone saying a comment about my car, %26quot;oh, that guy probably stole that car. But I worked hard for these things, why do people feel they can assume something about someone else without knowing them?

Why do some people just judge you by you%26#039;re race?
that is sometimes true. any person of colour is always stereotyped by anything. i don%26#039;t even know who perpetuated these ideas. like how asians cannot drive, blacks like fried chicken and browns smell, u name it. i can talk about this forever but all i want to say is that you are you. and we all know this one saying, never judge a book by its cover. but then again i dont read books. he he. but seriously ppl judge u becos they don%26#039;t know u. in fact, i pity them and so should you.
Reply:They%26#039;re jealous because they can%26#039;t afford the real thing. So they want to convince themselves that %26quot;someone like you%26quot; can%26#039;t either. Nothing personal, they would say it about anybody else, too.
Reply:Because they%26#039;re jealous prats, ingnorance is not an excuse, they know what%26#039;s right and wrong.
Reply:People are like that. Idiots.
Reply:Ignorance! So Ignore them!
Reply:Short answer: because they%26#039;re idiots.

Long answer: because they think they can make generalizations about people of a particular race, based on media representations, limited encounters, and anecdotal evidence.

The real reason is the %26quot;confirmation bias.%26quot; In the racial context, this means that when a person develops a stereotype that, say, people of your race wear knockoff shoes, every time they see a person of your race with knockoff shoes, it %26quot;confirms%26quot; their idea, but every time they see a person of your race wearing authentic shoes (probably much, much more often), they consciously or subconsciously ignore it as an aberration.
Reply:yeah.. they are idiots...

and the children are not taught by their parents about races...

why do people see others through colors? can%26#039;t they seem deeper?? those people are just blind and are just in pretence that they actually were able to see..

bunch of pathetic people
Reply:They are a product of their environment. Their opinions come from one of two places: their parents, who taught them what THEY believed, or from themselves, having formed their own opinions based on their personal experiences.

For example: I was working with a private investigative/security agency part-time right after I retired from the Air Force, and the guy who owned the agency was Jewish. His temple hired him to provide two plainclothes security agents for the temple during their holy time at the new year, so me and another investigator - a black guy - were assigned to the detail.

While we%26#039;re walking around the temple doing our job, a very well-dressed little girl about ten years old walks up to us and very politely says, %26quot;Excuse me, may I ask you a question?%26quot; My partner said, %26quot;Sure, sugar, what is it?%26quot; She then asked, %26quot;How long are you going to be here?%26quot; I then asked, %26quot;Why?%26quot;

She then looked my partner straight in the eyes and said, %26quot;Because we don%26#039;t like YOUR KIND around here.%26quot; And then turned on her heel and left.

The whole thing just floored me, not to mention my partner. I called the boss on the phone - he was inside the temple at the time - and told him that my partner and I were walking off the job. He wanted to know why, so I told him. My boss then said, %26quot;So what%26#039;s the big deal?%26quot;

We both quit that day.

Now you tell me - just where does a TEN YEAR OLD GIRL learn things like that? Judging from the response I got from the boss, I think I have a pretty good idea.

I%26#039;m from the South, and I was taught by my father to treat everyone equal, regardless of the color of their skin, and I do just that. Sure, I have my opinions about things just like everyone else, but I can honestly say that I have never slighted anyone for the color of their skin. My father taught me better, and I listened to him. I then taught my son the same thing, and he%26#039;s the same as me.

Like I said, people are a product of their environment. If they are that way because they were taught to be that way, then it%26#039;s not completely their fault. But if they CHOOSE to be that way because of their own personal experiences and make a concious decistion to be that way, then that most certainly IS their fault.

And that goes for ALL people - white, black, yellow, green, purple - ALL people.
Reply:Ignore the ignorant. It is sad to think that in this day and age you still feel as though you have to explain yourself. Forget about them. I know that it is hard to do, but you are the better person in those situations.Racism and ignorance is taught from the parents. They are just repeating what they heard. Try not to let it bother you. Hold your head up high and walk on. Hopefully one day we can all work as one and be human to each other. Wouldn%26#039;t that be nice. I don%26#039;t understand why we have to see color. We are all the same inside.
Reply:It Is Called Ignorance.
Reply:they are jealous and envious of what u have
Reply:Tough. People are going to assume that because 1/3 of your kin-folk are involved with prison, probation or parole. Then the black community starts to follow Oprah and Bill Cosby instead of Jesse %26quot;shake down%26quot; Jackson, Tupac and Snopp Dog; then your people will be on the right course. Until then, you are just going to have to deal with it.
Reply:because there stupid and mean
