ACLU Lawyer Sues Disney over “Racist Mouse”

That black and white mouse from Disneyland has captured the attention of Las Vegas trial attorney Gordi LaFarge, 38, best known for his First Amendment amicus briefs filed through the Las Vegas Chapter of the ACLU. LaFarge claims that the character of Mickey Mouse was created to fuse the races during a contentious period of United States history.

"By creating a black and white mouse that children could relate to, and clothing it in red shorts and yellow shoes, Disney was attempting to attract children of multiple races," Lafarge states. "This was a pure marketing technique designed for the bottom line."

What is this lawyer thinking, suing Disney???
That is HILARIOUS! Actually, it is NOT illegal for companies to engage in "racial" marketing or even have "hate comments" in their advertising, etc. The only thing that is illegal is to NOT provide equal services to customers and NOT to provide equal employment opportunities.

A good example of this is the KKK. The KKK is a company. The KKK preaches all types of hate; however, none of it is illegal. Someone can't sue the KKK and demand that the KKK remove all figures that wear white coats. Do you get the point?

The marketing technique that LaFarge is talking about is actually reflected in many commercials and television shows. Companies, who recognize diversity is good for business, often will have different people of different races in their commercials, shows, websites, etc... There is nothing wrong with this and is actually a smart marketing technique.
Reply:omg. unreal. and theyll prob settle cause its cheaper then fighting it? thats the symbol for most of whats wrong with us. no one works, everyone looks for a quick buck.
Reply:He's a idiot... the suit will go no where...
Reply:That's a stupid, obviously frivolous lawsuit that by rights shouldn't even SEE the inside of a courtroom. However, here in the U.S. they will waste our time and taxpayer dollars entertaining this nonsense.

Of course, I can't imagine that this wouldn't get thrown out, though.
Reply:He is thinking, "I can get rich!".

And, "I can get my name in the paper and then get rich!"

You know, standard lawyer crap.
Reply:I don't agree with what this Lawyer is doing. What would have happened if the Mouse was just protrayed as a white mouse which some are really white, would the lawyer have used the white colour as being discriminating or prejudice because the Mouse wasn't Black. I think that they should conduct a survey of how the public feels about this issue because really it should be up to the public, not 1 lawyer who wants some of the money but yet he is ruining something that has brought happiness to alot of kids for many of years, why stir up the pot now? Money is what he's after. It's all animated anyway what difference does it make??
Reply:depending on the dollar amount, disney will likely settle just to get rid of him.
