College Algebra Help !!!!!!!!?

A question I need help with please:

Richie puts on his jogging shoes and trotted to the parkat 6 miles per hour. Then he raced back at 10 miles per hour. If it took 4 4/5 hours, how far was the park?

College Algebra Help !!!!!!!!?
Rate*Time=Distance

Time=Distance/Rate

Rates : 6mph, 10mph

Distance : x

Times : x/6 (on the way up) , x/10 (on the way back)

total time: 24/5 (up and back combined)

(add the 2 times together to get the total time.)

x/6 + x/10 = 24/5

(find a common denominator.. here it's 30, so mult. each fraction by 30)

5x + 3x = 6*24

(combine like terms)

8x=6*24

(divide by 4 to make the numbers smaller... smaller numbers makes it easier) (remember to only divide either the 6 or the 24 by 4... they are factors, not terms)

2x=6*6

2x=36

(divide 36 by 2)

x=18

and so.. the park is 18 miles away.

it took him 3 hours on the way up... (18/6)

and 1 4/5 hours on the way back. (18/10)

4 4/5 hours total.
