Do Caucasians, specifically white males, believe they are not victims/ participants of "white privilege", why?

People fail to realize that some privileges exist in America because of someone's race. In other countries, it may be gender, or heritage, even power. In America, it's race. i.e., being black, once in Shoe Carnival with my boyfriend, the manager called a code red on us and immediately a rep. came over to watch us for like 15 mins. Is it because we were black and not of white skin? My college professor is from Germany, not of European decent, however once in the bank with her friend who is African American, the bank teller serviced her instead of her African American friend, the teller stated: She just has to sign up, then wait for me to service her at this time...

Do Caucasians, specifically white males, believe they are not victims/ participants of "white privilege", why?
I think there are cases where I have extra privileges for no other reason than I am white. I also feel grateful for my blessings (being intelligent, healthy, etc). I know that racism is real and there are many less-privileged people with fewer advantages than I have had.

On the other hand I don't think racism is the cause of people's problems as often as they think. I think things are not so cut and dry. If you want to pick one cause for things being unfair then in my experience, especially in the corporate world, it's not what you know it's who you know. I've seen it many times: an undeserving person gets a promotion because he knows the boss. I guess you can't blame people. Everyone wants to help their own.
Reply:I definitely have missed out on so-called "white privilege". I don't have any scholarships that are available just because I am white. I don't get awarded extra points on tests for jobs.

Every group of people gets discriminated against in some way. I have had people think that past white boyfriends were automatically criminals just because they had long hair. Or assume they were drug addicts. And that is discrimination also.
Reply:What about affirmative action? Isn't that a privilege that only blacks and women have at their disposal? Everyone has certain privileges over others, its called life. Grow up and stop playing the race card.
Reply:Oh sure the streets where i live paved with gold, gated community with full service immigrant servants my butlers are from United Arab Emirates and Kuwait!
Reply:Unfortunately **** happens. But, like Chgo already said, racism can go both ways.
Reply:Why do Black People who are fighting discrimination insist on asking racist questions?
Reply:You are correct. There are definite privileges based on race. But let us not forget affirmative action -- or minority students who are offered scholarships to colleges. You mostly state examples of racism against African Americans.. but it also exists again "white males".
Reply:Actually because i am white i am made to feel guilty of what happened back in WW2, because of a myth.

As for white privilege, well i must have missed out..

Trust me it ain't just black people who get it.
Reply:People love to hire african americans and hispanics...what a tax break
Reply:I once was denied a job because I am white. The owner felt african Americans were more likely to respond well to another minority. Also, I had the privelege of being ina relationship with a beautiful African American woman for about a year. We experienced difficulty from the community due to our differing races. To my suprise however, any negative attention we recieved was from African Americans about 95% of the time. In the end, it was her friends and family that demanded she date someone of the same color.

Racism occurs every day but some people do not realize the extent of the effect of reverse discrimination(which is what affirmitive action really is) has on society as well. How can a society move on and heal from past discrimination when reverse discrimination occurs as a form of revenge and punishment.

Don't get me wrong, I hate acts of dicrimination, and I work against them when I can. For true healing to occur however, changes must be made across society, rather than simply attempting to limit one ethnic groups existing privelege.

To add one point after eading some other's comments, racial atrocities such as what occured during World War II were real. Instead of hiding behind ignorance, all ethnic groups should mourn the women, children, men, and soldiers of all races that died, both the victims and the brave men fighting to end the horror that was occuring.

Reply:Things aren't fair, that's the way it goes...

Personnally, I am a caucasian student paying full tuition, 4 immigrant's from Africa are getting a free education...It's nice to give opportunities, but I will be 50 000$ in the hole once I finish school...so I don't know, I don't know where all this took place, but I am sure if I walk down the street in a predominantely black neighbourhood, people will stare...It's not right, I know.
Reply:It is soooo nice to be white. Better schools, easy promotions, better service, more opportunities, cheaper prices, the list doesn't end. How does the other half live? Better luck next time sista!
