I NEED TO KNOW WHAT GUAGES I CAN PUT TO REPLACE THE OEM GUAGE CLUSTER THAT COMES WITH THE JEEP AND IS THE WIRING HARD?
MY JEEP IS A 4.2 6 CYLINDER 5 SPEED YEAR 1989
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT TYPE OF TRANSMISSION IT HAS?
1989 jeep wrangler transmission type and guage modifications?
There are 2 options for a 6cyl 5 speed trans in that model and year, the Puegot built has a case that unbolts lenghtwise or left side case and right side case, the Aisin or AX-15 has a case that unbolts sideways or front case and rear case. There should also be a tag on it with the name or a part number you can check.
Reply:Both 4wd.com and Quadratec have great upgraded gauges and also a new Holding Pod that angles them towards the driver%26#039;s view... It looks like a great setup for the YJ that you have ... I%26#039;ll be doing this to the wifes 89 soon ... As far as the wiring i%26#039;ll be double checking the service manual i have for her jeep .... You have a simple slide in plug on the backside and it apears that the wires go left to right with the Gauges ...I can%26#039;t swear to it without double checking the schematic first but it would stand to reason ... Each gauge will have a positive and negative wire for each gauge ... Again it looks simple enough and should be easy to do ... Your 89 YJ came with the puegot transmission , I think it%26#039;s a BA something ... I Forget , it%26#039;s been awhile..... Good Luck.......
