-I eat whatever the guy who beat me in the last race ate.

While running, it is rude to count the people you pass out loud.

Runners just do it - they run for the finish line even if someone else has reached it first.

We can't all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by.

Our sport is your sport’s punishment.

Cross Country isn't for everyone, only those weirdos who like to run through the woods in their underwear!

Running won't kill you... you'll pass out first.

Some people ask why I run so fast...well what do you do when you hear a gun?

Live to Run… Run to Live

I run because I must...it’s my destiny.

Fave. quote?
i love your quotes! One that has become one of my favorite is: "it is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out where the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deads could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose fall is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again; who know the great enthusiasms, the great devotins, and spends himself in a worthly cause; who at best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; and who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring reatly; so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid sould who know neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt

I have so many favorite quotes and little sayings. If you really want to know some, you can email me and I'll show y asome more of my favorites.

Some more I like are:

The most important thing in the Olympic games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.

I firmly believe that any mans finest hour-his greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear- is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle- victorious. -Vince Lombardi

and one of my other most favorites is the "It's all in a state of mind" quote. By Walter D Wintle.
Reply:Personally, I lionize Steve Prefontaine, so I like

"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift."

and

"Some people race for times, I race to see who has the most guts."

And also, I run cross country. Some of those things are true lol, but some of them aren't. Like what's up withthe puking things? Those are bulimics, not runners. Runners wouldn't throw up their nutrients. Pizza is horrible for you, wtf why is that part of a runner's food group? A good runner should nt be skinny. They should have a strong upper body and a very strong core. Without a strong upper body/core, a runner is weak and inexperienced. Also, "you have to get in the shower to get wet." That doesn't make any sense... runners probably sweat if they are doing intense workouts. But most of it cracks me up, that stuff that was true, but the stiff that I listed above just pissed me off because it was just BS.

Oh, and fyi, running is the most common form of exercise in the world, and there are over 50 events in the Olympics dedicated to running, I don't see football, which most people consider a "real" sport on the Olympics. I do admit though Track is very boring, like Nascar minus the car, ellipses suck...that's why I like cross country more.
Reply:Get the book The Quotable Runner which is edited by Mark Will Weber. Lots of good quotes and inspiration.
Reply:These are so cute! One time for XC a girl came up with some of these and put it on peoples lockers. It was awesome! I love running too. Thanks for taking the time to type all those.
Reply:2nd place is the first loser
Reply:SWEET! that was really funny.
Reply:"You don't run against a bloody stop watch, do you hear? A runner runs against himself, against the best that's in him. Not against a dead thing of wheels and pulleys. That's the way to be great, running against yourself. Against all the rotten mess in the world. Against God, if you're good enough." - Bill Persons

The more I run, the more I want to run, and the more I live a life conditioned and influenced and fashioned by my running. And the more I run, the more certain I am that I am heading for my real goal: to become the person I am. ~ George Sheehan
Reply:I love

Our sport is your sport’s punishment.

It is so true. We run...to run.. and the run some more. Isn't that just awesome? lol. There is no real game with running :/
Reply:Life is short,

Running makes it seem longer (Baron Hansen)

I have a t-shirt that says that, it made me smile.

I'm never going to run this again.

Grete Waitz after winning her first of nine New York City marathons

I think this one captures well the emotions of running, it really hurts but for some reason you are always drawn back.
Reply:My favorite quotes came from two of my coaches

"Somebody's gotta give Iona a run for their money and that somebody might as well be us"

  1. How about this one: "It's very hard to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the real competition is against the voice inside you that wants to quit." - George Sheehan

    My personal fave right now!
